Cable Jointing Solutions for Use with Your Electrical Network

Product Description

When you have an electrical network to maintain, you ned the right tools to keep the network secure and functioning. These include among other things cable joints mostly.

Common types of cable joints

Among cable joints, the medium voltage cable joints have much importance. Most of the common applications come under this category and so one must have a choice of cable joints that are reliable and durable. The common choice for the jointing is cold shrink system or the heat shrink system.

Choice of cold system

It is popular to use cold shrink system for jointing cables in places that have restrictions in space or the use of fire is not allowed. This includes most gas stations, oil refineries, and industries where there is exposure to inflammable oils and gases. One cannot use the heat shrink method here and so one should go with the cold shrink system for jointing the cables.

Need for cable joints

Here we see the need to make cable joints. The cables need regular maintenance since many of them remain exposed to the inclement weather conditions. In certain other places, people want to make extensions to their existing network and so one must use new cables and make cable joints to keep the grid functioning. Medium voltage cable joints are subjected to wear and tear and so you must check them regularly to see that they are proper shape and functioning properly.

Types of cable joints

One may use either the straight through joints or the transition cable joint to make the needed connection. The straight through cable joint will connect two similar cables while the transition cable joints join two dissimilar cables. So, to make a connection between an XLPE and another XLPE cable, you use a straight through joint. Or, if you have a PILC cable and another PILC cable the joint will be straight through. If one of the cables differ from the other, then you use a transition joint.

Choose a heat shrink system

The preference for cold shrink systems is limited only to those areas where you cannot use the heat shrink system. Otherwise, the heat shrink system will give you perfect waterproof and stable joints with a superior mechanical strength. The use of a blow-torch to fuse the sleeve material to the joint makes the joint very secure.

In the cold shrink joints, the sleeve is slipped onto the joint after joining the bare wires. Then the sleeve tightens over the joint due to the preinstalled tension in the sleeve. This helps make the joint secure.

Use superior quality material

You must use excellent quality material to keep the integrity of the network safe. Choose reliable suppliers who deliver superior quality material to give your cables and cable jointing solutions. Many projects are time dependent. So, you must have a supplier who will stick to the delivery schedule and not keep you waiting.

It is necessary to have a reliable standby team who know how to maintain the network. Most of the time, the suppliers will send the people to do the installation and, for a price, they will do the maintenance work too.
